Programme description (brief)

People entering the world of medical engineering experience a world of wonder and trail-blazing innovations in the service of mankind:

• Doctors can give implant a new heart value in cardiac patients without the need for open heart surgery.

• Thought processes and emotions can be visualised on computers; the deaf can hear again, the blind can see again.

• Chronically ill patients are not abandoned at home alone, but rather their doctors can make a comprehensive picture of their patients continually by means of telemedical technology.

These exemplary developments in medical treatment are often the result of the innovative capacity of the high-tech inventors in the field of medical engineering. They form the foundations for improvements in the healthcare sector, a market with high growth rates.

At the same time, medical engineering covers a wide spectrum of products and applications from tooth fillings and braces, products which, by the way, are of enormous economic significance, to surgical instruments and equipment, right up to complex imaging procedures and nuclear-medical treatments.

The course combines the fields of medicine, electrical engineering and IT interdisciplinarily. As such, it is extraordinarily diverse. Electrical and electronic devices are studied in detail. The students will address with the questions of how diagnosis and treatment possibilities arise from the interactions between this type of technical systems and the human body in the course of their studies.

Career prospects

Our graduates enter one of the world's largest growth markets, in which German medical engineering has managed to position itself outstandingly. The career possibilities range from development to production right up to the sale of instruments in the medical engineering sector.
