Programme description (brief)

North Rhine-Westphalia is a stronghold of the plastic processing industry (“Kunststoffland NRW”). The Plastics Engineering course reflects the geographical proximity to the corresponding industry branches as the contents of this course are specially tailored to the requirements of the local economy.

The principal elements of the course are production processes, product design, simulation (CAE), production management, business economics aspects and quality assurance. In addition, it also teaches the interdisciplinary skills required in the professional and working environment (key skills).

The practice-oriented training is offered with the assistance of the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid (KIMV) as an associated research institute of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. This cooperation allows our students to make use of the KIMV's excellent equipment, including for example measuring and testing equipment, a test laboratory and a surface application centre. Our graduates have a wide range of possible career paths open to them: for example, they are in particular demand in research and development, in production, in product development, in project management, in quality assurance and in material and component testing. Potential employers range from manufacturers of machines, tools and raw materials, producers of plastic moulded parts and research institutes, laboratories and in the civil service.
